Dayton, Ohio (April 10, 2018) — Woolpert has hired Steve Ambrose as Program Director for its Government Solutions market. Ambrose’s extensive experience with disaster management, remote sensing and applied science will support the firm’s work with critical infrastructure, natural disasters, climate change, water resources and information systems.
Ambrose comes to Woolpert with more than 40 years of experience in Earth science, climate, data engineering, and geospatial mapping and visualization, serving in multiple positions with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), National Ocean Service (NOS) and National Environmental Data and Information Service (NESDIS), NASA Headquarters, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Wetlands Inventory.
Senior Vice President and Director of Government Solutions Jeff Lovin said Ambrose’s extensive science and research experience with these and other federal organizations will expand the firm’s footprint within the market.
“Steve opens up the opportunity for us to work in areas of these organizations that we have not had the opportunity to in the past,” Lovin said. “As Government Solutions continues its aggressive growth strategy in the civilian federal market, it’s critical to bring on a seasoned program director such as Steve to support these vital initiatives. We’re excited and privileged to have him on board.”
Ambrose said he was drawn to Woolpert by its history and experience in the federal market, as well as its vision to extend that growth through geospatial data and analysis. The former meteorologist, physical scientist and aerospace engineer said this new role will enable him to use his knowledge of science, engineering and applications, while staying in touch with the technical work of supporting government sectors.
“The subject of remote sensing and geospatial data seemed to run through most of my career as a federal civil servant, so I focused my job search on remote sensing and Earth science,” Ambrose said. “Remote sensing in all its forms helps support Woolpert’s goals to grow the Government Solutions sector. Multiple federal agencies utilize remote sensing from space, aircraft, drones and ground to make important decisions on climate, engineering and disaster management. Woolpert’s work in coastal mapping, lidar, engineering and urban development serves the needs of all hazards and lends a better understanding of our built environment and societal benefits.”
Ambrose said he hopes to augment the firm’s role in contributing to clients’ critical decision support systems.
“There are so many risks the U.S. is exposed to on a daily basis,” Ambrose said. “I hope to help leverage the data Woolpert collects to reduce risk at a national and international scale toward improved community resilience. This is a very important job with much responsibility serving all levels of government.”
