Bieknowski to Lead KCI LiDAR Expansion in the Southeast

Tampa, FL, September 20, 2016 — KCI Technologies Inc., a multi-disciplined engineering firm with offices throughout the United States, welcomes Bret Bienkowski, LSIT, as practice leader for Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) surveys in the southeast. Based out of Tampa, Florida, he will be responsible for leveraging the firm’s success within the laser scanning market into an expanded presence in the region. For the past several years, KCI has grown its LiDAR capabilities and expertise and now boasts a trained staff and a host of successfully completed projects within the federal, utility and warehouse/distribution markets.

Bienkowski has worked within the LiDAR and hydrographic surveying industry for the last eight years. Prior to joining KCI, he provided training, sales and support for a major laser scanning systems manufacturer. In this role, he was also responsible for research and development of emerging technologies in terrestrial scanning and unmanned aircraft systems. His tenure in manufacturing has also afforded him a comprehensive technical understanding of 3-D laser scanning hardware. His surveying expertise includes mobile scanning, 3-D terrestrial scanning and modeling, mapping, reporting, and preparation of topographic and boundary surveys.

“Bret brings with him a depth of expertise in the 3-D laser scanning market and a thorough understanding of the application of all facets of LiDAR,” said Regional Practice Leader and Vice President James M. Gellenthin, PLS. “He will lead our expansion into a more complete LiDAR service provider.”

Bienkowski earned his bachelor’s degree in geomatics from the University of Florida. He is a Land-Surveyor-in-Training and is a certified unmanned aircraft systems pilot for LiDAR platforms. Bienkowski is an active speaker and educator on survey technologies, including a continuing education course on 3-D terrestrial scanning for the Florida Survey and Mapping Society, where he is also a member. He frequently presents on the topic at conferences, including for the Florida Utilities Coordinating Committee conference and the SPAR3D Expo & Conference.
