Fairfax, VA—April 5, 2016 – Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has been selected as part of a team to provide master planning services to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) to sustainably create or restore marsh habitat within the St. Louis Bay, Back Bay Biloxi, and Escatawpa/Pascagoula systems using dredge material.
Dewberry will develop a database that will strategically identify sites and available materials to restore and create marsh habitat. This GIS-based framework will showcase marsh creation sites, geographic characteristics, shoreline retreat rates, and historical dredging activity information. The framework will mimic natural shoreline behaviors and response and provide MDEQ with the data necessary to make targeted restoration plans. Dewberry will also help formalize the criteria and guidelines for dredged material acquisition and marsh site selection.
The project team is led by Brown, Mitchell & Alexander and also includes South Coast Engineers and BMI Environmental Services.
