Dayton, OH (Sep 15, 2014)… Woolpert, a national A&E, geospatial firm headquartered in Dayton, announced it has been awarded a contract with the ninth largest transit system in North America. Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) has selected Woolpert to provide geospatial surveying services that will generate highly accurate, three-dimensional digital models of all the agency’s assets.
These types of models provide precise data for improved reliability in planning of future system upgrades and asset management. The information generated by Woolpert will include a record of existing facilities, property and right-of-way, topography, utilities and MARTA’s 48 miles of rail tracks.
MARTA provides bus, rail and paratransit services to 1.65 million people in Atlanta and Fulton and DeKalb counties.
Woolpert will integrate the use of Global Positioning System (GPS), and advanced terrestrial and aerial laser scanning technologies, in addition to traditional surveying methods, to create the 3-D models.
“We are pleased to provide MARTA the surveying services that will assist them in managing and planning for the future of their transit system,” said Chris Chalmers, Woolpert senior project manager. “We’ve brought together a diverse team of experts in this field–all from the Atlanta area–to work on this project, which will allow us to maximize Woolpert’s expertise in geospatial services, laser technologies and 3-D digital modeling to deliver the accurate data MARTA needs to make sound decisions.”
Woolpert’s six-year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract with MARTA provides for optional annual extensions for up to five additional years, for a total of 10 years.
Woolpert is one of three prime contractors selected for the MARTA project. The firm will serve as lead contractor for the survey components requiring terrestrial laser scanning.
