Daniel R. Young Joins Dewberry Board of Directors

Former vice chairman and chief executive officer of Federal Data Corporation recently confirmed

Fairfax, VA—October 21, 2013 – During its August 28, 2013, board of directors meeting, Dewberry Chairman Barry K. Dewberry and Dewberry Chief Executive Officer Donald E. Stone, Jr., announced the confirmation of Daniel R. Young to its board of directors.

Young is the former vice chairman and chief executive officer of Federal Data Corporation (FDC). Now retired, Young served the company in various executive positions for more than 25 years. He was elected president and chief operating officer in 1985, and following FDC’s acquisition by The Carlyle Group, he assumed the position of chief executive officer and was elected vice chairman of the board of directors. He was instrumental in the sale of FDC to Northrop Grumman Corporation in 2000.

In addition to serving on Dewberry’s board of directors, Young is a managing partner of The Turnberry Group, an advisory practice to executive management. He also serves on the board of NCI Corporation, a publicly held company, and Knowledge Consulting Group (KCG), a privately held cybersecurity advisor.

About Daniel R. Young
Young has spent his career in the technology industry. Upon release from active duty from the U.S. Navy, he joined Texas Instruments, Inc. as an electro-mechanical design engineer where he gained experience in engineering, manufacturing, and sales. He was also selected as a Texas Instruments Doctoral Fellow with which he earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas, also his undergraduate alma mater.

Young was recruited to Data Transmission Company as executive vice president to direct the design and construction of the first nationwide digital communication network. He also participated in the sale of the company to Southern Pacific, the predecessor of Sprint.

In 1976, Young became the third employee of FDC, a then one-million dollar company. Working with the family-owned organization, Young helped grow the company to 2,400 employees with revenues of $850 million in 2001.

Young is the recipient of multiple industry awards including the 1998 Federal Computer Week Eagle Award for his contributions to the federal information technology community. He was also named a Federal 100 Award recipient in 1990, 1992, and 1994 by Federal Computer Week for having a significant impact on the government information and telecommunication systems community.

Young received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas in 1957 and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law in 1969.
