Betty Ferrer, Vice President of Administration and Chief Financial Officer of Biscayne Engineering Company is the new Secretary/Treasurer of Miami’s oldest company. Biscayne Engineering started in 1898. Mike Bartholomew, President of Biscayne, issued the announcement.
Ms. Ferrer joined Biscayne Engineering in 1977 when she was a teenager and freshly graduated from Miami High School. Beginning as a receptionist, she advanced with BEC wearing every hat imaginable including stints as Billing Clerk, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Human Resources, and assisted in the Surveying and Engineering departments. She continues to be hands on in all aspects of the company’s daily operations.
A native of Cuba, Betty Ferrer has acquired extensive and specialized training in accounting, and business procedures, related to engineering and surveying, and continues to grow in these areas. Ms. Ferrer commented, “I also have been privileged to work with and learn from some very talented people, especially Mary Bolton, wife of Biscayne’s owner, George Bolton.”
Ms. Ferrer is married to José Ferrer, a retired City of Miami Police officer and currently with the U.S. Marshall’s office at the Federal Courthouse. They have two sons, Joey, 24 and Manny 22.
Ms. Ferrer said of her new role, “Over the years, I have seen many changes in our company. I used to fear change, but I learned that if you enjoy your job and do the very best you can do, there is nothing to fear.”
