Clary & Associates Hosts a Day of Competition to Benefit United Way

Jacksonville, FL — November 15, 2005 — To kick-off the holiday season with company spirit, as well as show continued support for United Way of Northeast Florida, Clary and Associates Professional Surveyors and Mappers hosted a day of competition on Monday, October 31st. On Halloween day, employees and staff had their chili pots ready for the delicious Clary Chili Cook-Off, and many participated in the holiday costume contest, 10th Annual Pumpkin-Decorating Contest and 50/50 raffle.

On hand for the festivities were Mark Mitchell and Erin Clark, representing United Way of Northeast Florida. Entry fees for the Clary Chili Cook-Off, as well as proceeds from the 50/50 raffle, were donated to the non-profit organization. Mitchell and Clark also gave an informative presentation about United Way and its programs.

“It’s important for us to take time out for fellowship,” said Greg Clary, founder and president of Clary & Associates. “It’s also important to give back to the community. While we always enjoy the camaraderie of our team members, we also want to keep our support of local non-profit organizations foremost within the company. As we continue to experience rapid growth, our new employees periodically will be introduced to the variety of worthy causes that we support. There’s definitely a cause to interest everyone.”

Of the 13 entries for the Clary Chili Cook-Off, members of the company’s field crews swept the competition by taking the first-, second- and third-place awards. Winning recipes included: Wild Dog Chili by David Wilferth, crew chief; Chainsaw Chili by Duane Alday, rodman; and Dirty Dave’s Chili by David Rhodes, crew chief. Prizes included a variety of gift baskets handcrafted by vice president Sue Scull.

Clary & Associates’ 10th Annual Pumpkin-Decorating Contest produced several fun and creatively adorned gourds. Cheryl Winsett, administrative assistant, took first place with “Carousel Pumpkin.” Second and third place awards went to Krista Hagan, administrative assistant, and Brenda Barry, survey technician, for “Little Ballerina Pumpkin” and “Vampire Spider Pumpkin,” respectively. Winners received gourmet gift baskets handcrafted by vice president Sue Scull.

The company’s Halloween costume contest showcased the imaginative team members’ artistic talents and resourcefulness. The top three winners were: Cheryl Winsett for her costume titled “Calgon Take Me Away;” Mike Brent, survey technician, for his costume titled “Mad Hatter;” and Shauna Perri, administrative assistant, for her costume titled “Clary & Associates’ Company Nurse.” Costume contest winners also received gift baskets handcrafted by vice president Sue Scull.

“We’re already looking forward to next year’s competition,” said Shari Schurr, director of communications for Clary & Associates. “We learned that many times, all you have to do is ask to get support for community programs. While we give out plenty of company awards, our reward is the ability to help others and have a good time while doing it.”
