Lancaster, Pa. – RETTEW, an Engineering News-Record top 500 design firm providing engineering, transportation, environmental consulting, planning and surveying services, recently welcomed Michael P. Callahan, CPSS, LSS, as a project manager in the firm’s environmental sciences group.

As a project manager in RETTEW’s environmental sciences group, Callahan oversees soil science operations and activities, provides budget oversight and administration, enforces quality assurance standards and builds and maintains client relationships. Additionally, he reviews and compiles information relating to environmental permitting activities and is responsible for coaching and mentoring staff.
Callahan has more than 10 years of experience in the discipline of soil science, much of which involves the application of soil morphology, classification and chemistry to peer reviewed research projects; onsite soil and site evaluations for septic and stormwater suitability; hydric soil delineation; wetland and stream delineations and restoration and agronomic evaluations. He has worked in research institutions, the federal government and the private consulting community.
Callahan graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in environmental soil science and a master’s degree in soil science. He is a certified professional soil scientist (CPSS), a licensed soil scientist (LSS) and a sewage enforcement officer. He is a member of the Soil Science Society of America, the National Society of Consulting Soil Scientists and the Pennsylvania Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association. He resides in Palmyra, Dauphin County, Pa.
