Rick brings more than 30 years of experience in business development, construction management, and design
Austin, TX — September 21, 2010 — Surveying and Mapping, Inc., (SAM, Inc.), a leading provider of complete geospatial data solutions via advanced surveying and mapping technologies, has named Rick Benson, Professional Engineer, the new office manager of the Austin-based surveying firm’s growing Dallas office. With a BS in Civil Engineering and a MS in Engineering Management, Rick Benson has extensive experience in all aspects of transmission line engineering design and construction management, including routing, environmental permitting and property rights acquisition. Rick served as Transmission Engineering Manager for a large Texas based utility, where he was Program Manager for the first in a series of EHV transmission projects deemed Critical Constraint Projects by ERCOT.
More recently, Rick was Area Manager for the North Texas Utility Division for a Texas-based surveying and engineering firm. Rick actively participated in marketing, business development and operations management for a variety of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and Utility Coordination (UC) projects. Significant projects included a flood control and development project sponsored by federal, state, municipal and local interest groups. Rick led the SUE and UC effort to support a bypass channel to convey flood waters away from the central business district and also addresses urban revitalization, ecosystem improvements and recreation. The project included approximately 100,000 linear feet of underground utilities.
Rick’s expertise with utilities, combined with SAM, Inc.’s existing SUE and UC experience and resources, positions him to take a leading role in expanding and developing new opportunities for the firm in the electric utility and transportation markets.
Rick will join the existing Dallas office management team in helping expand and grow SAM, Inc.’s presence throughout the North Texas region.
