December 4, 2008, Lake Mary, FL – FARO Technologies, Inc., the world leader in portable computer-aided measurement and imaging innovations, announced that it has named international metrology expert Gary Telling as one of its Business Development Directors.
Telling, a 32-year veteran of the automotive industry, built his reputation through his groundbreaking work at General Motors. He started there in 1976 as a Production Supervisor, controlling all aspects of final vehicle assembly in their General Assembly and Body Shops for a multitude of vehicles. In 1991, he was among a select group of employees throughout GM identified to attend Purdue full time, where he studied Industrial Technology and finished 1st in class with a 6.00 GPA.
From there, Telling excelled at various engineering roles where he not only established GM’s first modern Metrology operation, but also implemented the latest data acquisition and analysis techniques using various technologies, including FARO’s portable coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). By 2002, he handled dimensional and quality control for eight different GM new product launch sites, and assisted teams in creating GM’s proprietary data analysis system using code he developed on his own.
Throughout his illustrious career, Telling has received numerous accolades, including the company’s first “People Make Quality Happen” and “President’s Council” Awards. Most recently, Telling served as GM’s Advanced Global Metrology Lead for five years where he researched, benchmarked, and developed business cases for the company’s metrology strategies, while also discovering and implementing new applications for technology.
“Gary’s expertise will be crucial in helping us solve our customers’ challenges not only the automotive arena, but in other key and emerging markets as well,” FARO SVP and Managing Director of the Americas David Morse said. “He will help them be innovative, effective, and also be their voice in our product development process.”
