Orlando, Fla. – The Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers (FICE) presented Bowyer-Singleton & Associates (BSA), a full-service civil engineering firm based in downtown Orlando, with its Engineering Excellence Grand Award. Honored for their project on Florida’s Turnpike at Kissimmee Park Road, Bowyer-Singleton received the top award in the transportation category.
In collaboration with the City of St. Cloud and Osceola County, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise selected Bowyer-Singleton to implement an interchange on Florida’s Turnpike at Kissimmee Park Road with a timeline much shorter than the expected seven to 10 years. By utilizing an innovative schedule to compress the length of the project, Bowyer-Singleton designed and constructed the interchange to allow traffic in just 42 months. Complete with electronic toll collection systems, bridge replacements and new ramp construction, the interchange now serves more than 7,500 vehicles a day.
The project ranked highly on criteria such as complexity, innovation in technique and future value to the engineering profession. As one of only eight grand award winners in the state and the only winner in the transportation category, Bowyer-Singleton will be recognized at the 2008 FICE Banquet in August of next year.
FICE is affiliated with the Florida Engineering Society as its designated practice section for engineers in private practice.
