Leica Geosystems Wins Large Order for GPS Surveying Systems for Agrarian Land Registry in Mexico

Norcross, Ga. – May 4, 2006 – Leica Geosystems has won an order from the Mexican government to supply 92 high-precision GPS surveying systems for a major, nationwide land registry initiative.

The order for 92 Leica GX1220 GPS surveying instruments was placed by the Registro Agrario Nacional through Leica Geosystems’ dealer SYSTOP (Porfirio Diaz No. 35 y Carolina Colonia Nochebuena, Mexico D.F.).

The equipment will be used for field data acquisition to establish a cadastral-based land registry of lands farmed throughout the country. It is part of a major initiative being undertaken by the Mexican government to document ownership of lands distributed since the Revolution of 1910. Just in the State of Chiapas, one of the most difficult regions of Mexico due to its topography and its location in the middle of the jungle, more than one million parcels of land will be surveyed and registered.

“The conditions under which the equipment is going to be used are extreme,” said Juan Delgado Trujillo, president of SYSTOP. “That is one major reason the Mexican authorities decided to choose the Leica GPS System 1200 products for this task.”

“Another important factor was the high level of technical support provided by Leica Geosystems,” Trujillo added.

Cesar Lanatta, vice-president of Leica Geosystems for Latin America, stressed the importance of this project and the extreme tests that all bidders had to undergo. “Throughout the course of the testing process, Leica Geosystems consistently returned highly accurate results, demonstrating quality performance and reliability,” Lanatta said.

“An experienced team of Mexican GPS professionals from both SYSTOP and Leica Geosystems, Mexico performed the tests and will guarantee the after sales support, which is a key factor in the long term success of the project,” Lanatta added.

This was the second large order for Leica GPS System 1200 instruments in Mexico. Last year, Leica Geosystems delivered 132 GX1220s to the Instituto Nacional de Estadistica Geografia e Informática (INEGI).
