Las Vegas, Nevada – John B. Zumwalt, III, P.E. was named PBS&J’s new chairman of the board at the firm’s Annual Service and Stockholders’ Meeting, held this year in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 26-28. Zumwalt, who has served as president of PBS&J since 2000, will continue to serve as chief executive officer (CEO). He replaces outgoing Chairman Richard A. Wickett, CPA, who announced his retirement after 31 years with PBS&J. Todd J. Kenner, P.E., will assume the president’s role. Kenner has served as regional director of the firm’s West Region and is the director of PBS&J’s National Business Development Service.
John Zumwalt joined PBS&J in 1973 and has been on the firm’s board of directors since 1990. He has served in various capacities throughout his career with PBS&J, including director of Civil Engineering and principal-in-charge for numerous engineering assignments in both the public and private sectors. He was named chief operating officer in 1999, president in 2000, and chief executive officer in 2002.
Zumwalt has a long history of active participation in the engineering industry. He has served as Florida Engineering Society (FES) president and statewide director and as the statewide officer, director, and president of the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers. Through these organizations, he has worked to help those in the engineering field gain professional recognition. He is a cofounder of the FES/FICE Leadership Institute.
Zumwalt’s personal accomplishments include receiving FES’s Engineer of the Year award from its Pinellas Chapter and, in 2004, the association’s Governor A.W. Gilchrist Award for public service to the engineering profession. Also in 2004, he received the South Florida Achievers Award by In Focus magazine and was inducted into the University of Rhode Island (URI) College of Engineering Hall Of Fame.
He has a substantial record of service to the community and is a member of the board of directors of the Florida Chamber of Commerce and chair of the Florida Chamber Foundation, a member of the Executive Committee for Florida Tax Watch, and a member of the Florida Council of 100.
Todd Kenner joined PBS&J in 1989 and has been a member of the firm’s board of directors since 2001. Kenner is the corporate sponsor for several key PBS&J initiatives, including the PBS&J University and the PBS&J Leadership Development Program. His expertise encompasses all aspects of civil engineering, land surveying, and administrative management.
Kenner is a member and past chairman of the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. He is the vice chair for the University of Nevada Las Vegas College of Engineering Advisory Board. He has served as the president of the Nevada American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). His personal accomplishments include Engineer of the Year, Southern Nevada Chapter of NSPE (1997-1998) and Outstanding Recent Graduate, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1994.
