(Norcross, GA, 04 April 2013)—Leica Geosystems, Inc., provider of leading building information modeling solutions, announces BIM pioneer Cathi Hayes as its new NAFTA BIM Business Manager. Hayes will expand and execute both short- and long-term BIM strategy for Leica Geosystems, as well as manage BIM hardware and software integration partnerships.
From the market leader in Scanning and Robotic Total Stations Leica Geosystems’ provides BIM solutions based on high-definition scanners, total stations, measurement tools and supporting software such as Leica CloudWorx, Cyclone PUBLISHER, Leica Building Link and Leica Infrastructure Link. These solutions enable AECO professionals to turn reality into very accurate, intelligent building models that are used for renovations, retrofits and additions. Leica BIM solutions also leverage design models to create construction layouts that are communicated directly to Leica layout solutions for faster, more accurate results in the field. Leica building construction solutions simply help turn reality into BIM and BIM into reality.
“Getting BIM to the job site is a huge game changer for construction firms,” Hayes says. “The ability to literally project the accuracy of BIM from the office into the field for construction layout increases accuracy and predictability while reducing contractor risk, change orders and schedule delays. A great example is One World Trade Center, also known as Freedom Tower. Architects and engineers used a BIM process to produce a highly coordinated design model that was extended to the structural layout from the basement levels all the way up to the 104th floor and to the top of the spire, reaching 1,776 feet tall. Leica BIM solutions place every single piece of the structure with pinpoint accuracy.”
The daughter of an electrical contractor, Hayes (North Carolina State, BEDA Architecture ’91 and University of Kansas, PBA, ’95) is widely respected in the industry for her early role in establishing BIM. University of California Berkeley’s summer global Architecture program in computer visualization (now BIM) sparked her passion for model-based design. After ten years as an architect, Hayes moved to Revit Technology (later Autodesk) as sales director. She later served as Cyco Software senior channel manager for the Americas, Autodesk regional sales manager, WCI Architecture and Land Planning operations director, and Autodesk industry strategy and marketing manager of BIM solutions.
