The 300,000-square-foot structure will have 50 dock doors and five penthouses for refrigeration equipment at the yogurt company’s Minster, Ohio, location.
Minster, Ohio (May 4, 2017) — Woolpert, working with Mound Technologies and Ferguson Construction, has designed a roughly 300,000-square-foot refrigerated distribution center for The Dannon Co. in Minster, Ohio. The approximately $25 million steel structure will have 50 dock doors and five penthouses for refrigeration equipment.
Woolpert provided structural steel design services for the Minster warehouse on a fast-track project delivery schedule, which allows construction to get underway as soon as individual bid packages are completed. This process compresses the project schedule, saving time and money.
Woolpert—a national architecture, engineering and geospatial firm founded in Dayton in 1911—has extensive experience that supports the fast-track project delivery process, enabling the firm to easily adjust when changes are requested during construction.
Ferguson Construction is building the distribution center. Mound Technologies, the project’s steel fabricator, hired Woolpert.
“We’ve been working regularly with Mound since 2012, and we appreciate that relationship,” said Frank Monastra, Woolpert engineer and project manager. “We build relationships by providing quality deliverables on schedule, being responsive, finding innovative solutions and adapting to client needs.
“Because of our relationship with Mound, we’ve been able to provide structural engineering services for owners like Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, Honda, (etc.),” Monastra said. “We’ve also designed some cool projects through Mound, including the pedestrian bridge that spans a ravine at the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, Ky., linking the exhibit to the parking lot.”
Specific to the Dannon project, Monastra lauded Woolpert Engineer Josh Perry, who provided the detailed design for the distribution center. The distribution center is slated to be up and running this summer.
Dannon, headquartered in White Plains, N.Y., produces more than 200 varieties of yogurts and related dairy products at its sites in Minster; Fort Worth, Texas; West Jordan, Utah; and Portland, Ore.
