McKim & Creed, Inc. has been given notice to proceed on beach profiles and coastline surveys to be conducted along the New York shoreline for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District. The contracts include a beach profile, topographic survey and utility survey for a 6.7-mile area of Long Beach Island, New York; a condition survey of 19 miles of Great South Bay, New York; and hydrographic surveys of Patchogue River and the Glen Cove Creek Federal Navigation Channel.
The New York District is responsible for protecting waterways and wetlands along the New York and New Jersey coasts. Additional responsibilities include planning, implementing and operating civil works projects; conducting environmental remediation and restoration; response to emergencies and contingency operations; and planning, design and construction infrastructure for the military and others. The District has been heavily involved with restoration and risk management projects/studies associated with Hurricane Sandy, which severely impacted the coast in October 2012.
McKim & Creed has worked with the New York District for several years on a variety of hydrographic surveying and coastal monitoring projects. “We are proud to help the District fulfill its mission of reducing risk from natural disasters and supporting national security,” said David Jones, PLS, geomatics regional manager with McKim & Creed.
In 2015, the New York District and McKim & Creed received national recognition from the American Council of Engineers for their work on a beach profile and groin survey along four miles of New Jersey beach that were devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
McKim & Creed also works with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers districts in Wilmington, North Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina, and Norfolk, Virginia.
