Geographic Calculator 2016 Now Supports Petrel Database Files in Service Pack 1

Hallowell, Maine – July 12, 2016 – Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Geographic Calculator 2016 Service Pack 1 (SP1). This intermediate release includes array of functional upgrades, operational improvements, and new capabilities throughout the application. Building on the interface and usability enhancements that were introduced with the initial release of Geographic Calculator 2016, Service Pack 1 provides an improved interface for working with seismic survey conversions; a new online geodetic database update tool for continual database updates; and support for reading coordinate systems from a Petrel™ database.

Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.

The Geographic Calculator is recognized as the foremost tool for addressing and solving the most complex and demanding geodetic challenges. As the industry leader, this powerful application has become an essential part of the data management toolkit for businesses, organizations, and government departments where spatial data must be accurate and consistent. The Geographic Calculator is used to quickly and efficiently convert, reproject, and transform all forms of spatial data and includes the largest database of geodetic parameters available anywhere. The Service Pack 1 upgrade to the 2016 release includes improvements that have been designed to optimize workflow and improve productivity.

At the core of Geographic Calculator’s geodetic data processing capability is the application’s datasource, an extensive collection of coordinate system definitions, transformation parameters, and much more. With the 2016 SP1 release, the datasource is synchronized with version 8.9.2 of the EPSG Registry and the currency of this resource is significantly improved and streamlined with updates now delivered on a frequent basis using the new online GeoCalc Geodetic Registry. Additionally, Geographic Calculator can now read coordinate system definitions directly from a PetrelTM CTL database as well as from WKT 2.0 coordinate system files.

The user experience continues to be improved in Geographic Calculator. In SP1, significant interface updates have been implemented throughout the application and especially in the Seismic Survey Conversion job, providing efficient support for SEG-Y data. When working with vector files, a new preview window is now available in the Start Page and in the Vector Data Conversion job providing a visual representation of the data being processed.

“Since the release of Geographic Calculator 2016 late last year, we have received numerous favorable comments about the improved interface and layout,” stated Blue Marble’s President, Patrick Cunningham. “The release of this Service Pack upgrade demonstrates a continuation of this effort to streamline geodetic data management and productivity for our customers.”
