Septentrio GNSS Products to Be Showcased at Western Dredging Association Summit

Torrance, Calif. – June 22, 2015 – Septentrio Navigation Systems is spotlighting its range of GNSS products for dredging, reclamation, marine construction and hydrographic applications at the Western Dredging Association Summit & Expo in Houston, Texas, this week.

Higgs Hydrographic Tek, a Septentrio dealer and system integrator, will present the Septentrio GNSS products in Booth 61 at the annual conference and exhibition. Products on display include the Altus APS-U machine control receiver and AsteRx2 OEM receiver.

Septentrio’s world-class GNSS sensor technology offers unique benefits for dredging and marine construction projects, according to Neil Vancans, vice president of Septentrio Americas. The Septentrio family of multi-channel GNSS receivers provide reliable, high-quality position and orientation using high-precision real-time kinematic (RTK) or TERRASTAR-D L-band precise point positioning (PPP). They also provide industry-leading interference mitigation for uninterrupted performance in areas where Iridium transmitters are being used, as well as superior scintillation robustness to overcome ionospheric interference, a common problem in equatorial regions.

“The primary drivers of our success in the demanding dredging industry are our products’ ruggedness, ease of use, RTK and PPP modes, flexible Web interface, easy integration with user software packages and reliable anti-jamming performance in the presence of high RF interference levels,” said Vancans. “All of these products are based on Septentrio’s advanced GNSS chipset technology and share the high-quality all-in-view GPS and GLONASS tracking-and-signal processing algorithms for robust tracking and positioning, even in challenging environments.”

The Altus APS-U is widely used in machine control applications around the world. The unit’s 272-channel GPS/GLONASS/SBAS receiver has dual antennas designed to provide highly accurate heading and position for machine control applications. Cased in a rugged MIL-STD-810C aluminum housing, the instrument is built to the most rigorous standards for waterproofing, humidity, dust, shock, vibration and extreme temperatures. It has an extremely user-friendly Web interface designed specifically to address the needs of dredging companies.

Michael Higgs, president of Higgs Hydrographic Tek, said, “Septentrio is recognized worldwide as a leader in GNSS technology, and its products are being used on major international projects by some of the world’s largest dredging companies such as Jan de Nul and DEME. We’re now bringing that same exciting technology to the North American dredging community. We’re already using the Septentrio GNSS products on several dredging projects, with excellent results.”

“One of the special benefits of the Septentrio and Altus GNSS receivers is their ease of integration into third-party solutions and software packages,” added Higgs.

Septentrio Navigation Systems completed the acquisition of Altus Positioning Systems, based in Torrance, Calif., June 15, 2015.
