Dewberry’s Dave Maune, PhD, Appointed to NOAA Hydrographic Services Review Panel

Federal advisory committee provides agency with feedback, advice

Fairfax, VA—March 23, 2015 – The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has appointed David Maune, Ph.D., to its Hydrographic Services Review Panel, which according to the agency, “gives NOAA independent advice for improving a range of services and products that support navigation and coastal resilience.” Maune is one of three new panel members.

According to NOAA’s administrator, Kathryn Sullivan, Ph.D., the panel will also provide NOAA with “essential expertise on commercial maritime needs and hydrographic data that is tremendously valuable to us as we work to build resilient communities and businesses along our nation’s coasts.”

About David Maune, Ph.D.
Maune is a senior project manager with Dewberry’s geospatial group and a recognized authority in the fields of geodesy, photogrammetry, LiDAR, and IFSAR. Maune has been Dewberry’s senior project manager for all forms of geospatial products and services since 1992. He has managed major mapping programs for NOAA, the U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and state, county, city, and private clients. He is currently focusing on mapping the state of Alaska, which has never previously been mapped to National Map Accuracy Standards at any scale. Maune is a Fellow Member of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS), in recognition of his lifetime achievements in support of the geospatial profession. He served as a member of two National Research Council (NRC) committees studying the accuracy of FEMA flood data; and he is a charter member of the National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC) that advises the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC). He specializes in all technologies used for digital elevation mapping, and he is the editor and principal author of the first and second editions of “Digital Elevation Model Technologies and Applications: The DEM Users Manual,” published by ASPRS.
