Ineco’s ‘HS2 Birmingham Delta Junction’ Project Wins 2013 Bentley Be Inspired Award

Project Team’s Innovative Use of Bentley’s Power Rail Track, MicroStation, and ProjectWise Enabled Design Completion With 30 Percent Fewer Resources

Exton, Pa., U.S.A., – March 27, 2014 Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure, today announced that Ineco’s HS2 Birmingham Delta Junction project in Birmingham, U.K., has won a 2013 Be Inspired Award. Ineco is a global leader in transport engineering and consultancy. The project won in the “Innovation in Rail and Transit” category.

The recipients of the Be Inspired Awards were selected by six panels of independent jurors, comprising accomplished Bentley users and distinguished industry experts, from 65 project finalists. These finalists had been previously chosen from submissions by more than 300 organizations in 43 countries. The awards honor the extraordinary work of Bentley users improving and sustaining the world’s infrastructure, recognizing outstanding and innovative project achievements in infrastructure design, construction, and operations empowered by effective strategies for B/IM. (“B/IM” signifies Bentley’s advancement of the reach and benefits of BIM for better-performing assets through increased depth of information modeling, and better-performing projects through increased breadth of information mobility.)

Commenting on the award presented to Ineco, Steve Cockerell, Bentley industry marketing director, rail, said, “This award category recognizes projects that have demonstrated excellence in rail and transit design or operations and maintenance.

The first phase of the High Speed 2 (HS2) Railway under development in the U.K. will run 200 kilometers between London and Handsacre in the West Midlands, at a design speed of 400 kilometers per hour. At the Delta Junction in Birmingham, the Main Line coexists with branches to Birmingham and Leeds, creating complex structures and sections. Ineco designed this GBP 350 million section using Power Rail Track, MicroStation, and ProjectWise, enabling it to reduce the resources required for the project by 30 percent.

Power Rail Track’s versatility in designing sections with walls and platform junctions achieved the optimal model for Delta Junction. The program’s project preferences ensured that all team members – at offices in London, Wales, Madrid, and Seville – worked with the same standards as required by the owner, HS2. ProjectWise managed all documentation and optimized access to information.

“The jurors cited the project’s excellent use of integrated Bentley technologies, while working in a compressed time schedule, as one of the factors in its selection of HS2 Birmingham Delta Junction for this award. They were also impressed with how quickly the project team was able to become proficient in the use of Bentley products, which allowed it to start up quickly.

On behalf of my colleagues at Bentley, I congratulate Ineco on this extraordinary accomplishment.”

Berta Barrero, Ineco corporate managing director, said, “It is an honor to receive the prestigious Be Inspired Award and contribute our experience and our expert team to the development of such an important project as HS2.”
