‘Duxiling 220 Kilovolt Substation’ Project by China’s Jiangxi Electric Power Wins 2013 Bentley Be Inspired Award

Team’s Innovative Use of Bentley Software Resulted in Dynamic Linkages Between 3D and 2D Models, Schematics, and Wiring Diagrams, Reducing Design Errors and Achieving Design Productivity Gain of About 30 Percent

Nanchang, China – March 27, 2014 Jiangxi Electric Power Design Institute, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) with an array of Class-A national qualifications and an overseas engineering contract qualification covering electrical engineering, comprehensive engineering investigation, general contracting, engineering consulting, supervision, and mapping, today announced that its Duxiling 220 Kilovolt Substation project in Pingxiang, Jiangxi, China, has won a 2013 Be Inspired Award from Bentley Systems, Incorporated. Bentley is the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure. The project won in the “Innovation in Utility Transmission and Distribution Infrastructure” category.

The recipients of the Be Inspired Awards were selected by six panels of independent jurors, comprising accomplished Bentley users and distinguished industry experts, from 65 project finalists. These finalists had been previously chosen from submissions by more than 300 organizations in 43 countries. The awards honor the extraordinary work of Bentley users improving and sustaining the world’s infrastructure, recognizing outstanding and innovative project achievements in infrastructure design, construction, and operations empowered by effective strategies for B/IM. (“B/IM” signifies Bentley’s advancement of the reach and benefits of BIM for better-performing assets through increased depth of information modeling, and better-performing projects through increased breadth of information mobility.)

Commenting on the award presented to POWERCHINA’s Jiangxi Electric Power Design Institute, Richard Zambuni, Bentley industry marketing director, utilities, communications, and government, said, “This award category is for projects that have demonstrated excellence in the planning, engineering, and analysis of utility transmission and distribution infrastructure. These projects may be for electricity, gas, or district energy infrastructure (and possibly in combination). They may be for transmission or distribution infrastructure including, but not limited to, substation design and management, transmission corridor planning and management, gas compressor station design and management, and transmission tower design.

“Owned and operated by China State Grid Corporation, the CNY 81 million Duxiling substation in Pingxiang will improve the electricity network and power supply reliability in Jiangxi province. The 220 kilovolt substation was delivered by POWERCHINA’s Jiangxi Electric Power Design Institute using Bentley’s integrated design software for substation engineering.

“The jurors determined that the Duxiling 220 Kilovolt Substation project exemplifies one of the most innovative uses of GEOPAK, Bentley Substation, Bentley Raceway and Cable Management, and ProjectWise. The adoption of various Bentley software products enables real-time collaboration between various disciplines on the same design platform. This innovative approach resulted in seamless and dynamic linkages between 3D and 2D models, schematics, and wiring diagrams, which significantly reduced design errors, achieving a design productivity gain of about 30 percent.

On behalf of my colleagues at Bentley, I congratulate POWERCHINA’s Jiangxi Electric Power Design Institute on this extraordinary accomplishment.”

Liao Gongyi, chief engineer of Jiangxi Electric Power Design Institute, said, “On behalf of POWERCHINA’s Jiangxi Electric Power Design Institute, I want to express my gratitude to the Be Inspired Awards jurors, who fully recognized our innovative approach to this project. ProjectWise and Bentley Navigator allowed our engineers to successfully collaborate on a very complex project. In addition, we were able to be more productive because we were working from a single intelligent 3D model of the substation. Once the project is implemented, the owners will have a physical as well as a digital plant, laying a solid foundation for the full-lifecycle management of the Duxiling Substation, and establishing a best practice for future plant projects.”
