Centennial, Colorado, 27 January 2014 – CompassTools Inc., a distributor of mapping and GIS products for field data collection, is pleased to announce the hiring of Joshua Appleman, GISP, as a Territory Sales Manager. Based in Omaha, Neb., Appleman will serve existing clients and develop new opportunities for CompassTools products and services in Nebraska, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.

“Josh is a certified GIS Professional (GISP) with an extensive background in project management, field data collection and GIS analysis,” said CompassTools CEO Steve Chiles. “He understands the importance of providing the right GPS or GIS tool for each data collection project.”

CompassTools is a value-added reseller of hardware and software mapping solutions from Trimble, Laser Technology, Ricoh, GeoSpatial Experts, Esri, and CartoPac. Since 1994, CompassTools has sold, leased, repaired, and offered training on the latest GPS and GIS mapping products in an eight-state region that includes Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico, Minnesota, Nebraska, the Dakotas and parts of Texas. In addition, the firm provides expert GPS/GIS consulting and creates customized bundled solutions to meet the specific needs of complex data collection projects.

“I’m excited to put my geospatial skills and experience to work for a company like CompassTools that is a leader in the mapping and GIS field,” said Josh Appleman. “CompassTools has a great reputation in the industry for providing turnkey solutions and offering excellent customer service.”

Prior to joining CompassTools, Appleman served as Asset Manager/GIS Specialist for the City of West Jordan, Utah, where he coordinated and led many GIS/GPS development, training and support programs for the Public Works Department. Appleman also worked as a Utility Field Solutions Coordinator for Electronic Data Solutions in Jerome, Idaho. Other positions include Senior Engineering Technician at Gatherco Inc. and GIS Manager at BL Robinson Engineering & Surveying.

Appleman joined the GIS industry in 1997 after graduating from Ball State University with a bachelor’s degree in GIS, Cartography and Remote Sensing. He earned his GISP certification in 2009.

In addition, he sees tremendous opportunities in providing bundled mapping solutions to oil and gas operations that are currently booming in North Dakota.

“Josh knows how to build and populate a GIS from start to finish,” said Chiles. “His hands-on experience will pay off for CompassTools clients as he helps them perform data collection and implement new projects. Our clients will be happy to see Josh walk in their door.”
