MDA to Provide RADARSAT-2 Digital Elevation Models to the Malaysian Government

Richmond, B.C. – MDA’s Information Systems Group (MDA) announced today that it has signed a contract with Sky-Shine Corporation of Malaysia to deliver over 52,000 square kilometers of digital elevation products using space-based imagery from RADARSAT-2 acquired during 2013 and 2014. MDA will deliver the completed digital elevation products for an area in Peninsular Malaysia to Sky-Shine as part of a project for the Malaysia Remote Sensing Agency in early 2014. The resulting data will be the most up-to-date terrain and elevation data available for the area. A digital elevation model is a 3-D representation of the land surface, providing height information that is useful for a variety of disaster management and mapping applications.

This contract builds on MDA’s leadership in the production of large-scale Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). MDA has delivered over 2.5 million square kilometers of DEMs within the Asia-Pacific region since 2009. It also highlights MDA’s continued success in reliably delivering high quality information products derived from RADARSAT-2 data to customers around the world.

The RADARSAT-2 satellite’s unique combination of global coverage, high resolution, wide image swaths, and its ability to acquire weather-independent imagery makes it the best choice for national scale mapping, monitoring, and disaster management programs.
