Dewberry Selected to Provide Remote Sensing Services for Post-Sandy Atlantic Seaboard Mapping

Fairfax, VA—November 21, 2013—Dewberry, a nationwide professional services firm, has recently been selected as the prime contractor for the collection and processing of topobathymetric LiDAR and digital camera imagery data under the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Coastal and Geospatial Services Contract.

The data will be used by NOAA as part of its National Geodetic Survey Remote Sensing Division’s Coastal Mapping program to enable accurate and consistent measurement of the national shoreline following Hurricane Sandy’s landfall. The Coastal Mapping Program provides a regularly updated and consistent national shoreline to define America’s marine territorial limits and manage coastal resources. This shoreline is applied to nautical charts and is considered authoritative when determining the official shoreline for the United States.

The collected data will also provide seamless topobathymetric data for various applications within the entire coastal community, as well as support other mapping, charting, geodesy services, marine debris surveys and coastal shoreline modeling for coastal states impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

As program manager, Dewberry will be responsible for the entire program, including data processing, quality control, and data merging and delivery. Partnering with Quantum Spatial and Woolpert, the Dewberry team will acquire and process topobathymetric LiDAR and imagery products for the entire project area – extending from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to Long Island, New York.

This $9.7 million project is supported by the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act 2013, also known as Supplemental Sandy funding.

Dewberry is recognized as a national leader in geospatial services. The firm’s geospatial services include photogrammetry, LiDAR, geodesy, ground control and check point surveys, photo interpretation, field reconnaissance, orthophotography, hyperspectral and multispectral imagery analysis, along with habitat and land use/cover mapping. Dewberry also provides full lifecycle cloud provisioning, hosting and application development services for mobile data and full-scale enterprise systems.
