Nottingham. UK, 12 November 2013 – The company behind the world’s most accurate mobile mapping system StreetMapper, has launched a brand new addition to their portfolio of mobile mapping solutions. Developed by 3D Laser Mapping, in partnership with IGI, V-Mapper is a dynamic, vehicle mounted, 3D mapping system comprising of a precision navigation system, state of the art laser scanning technology and an integrated spherical imaging system.
Innovative system design ensures V-Mapper is highly portable; packing down into two ruggedised cases for transport as checked in baggage, and easy to assemble; with mounting and calibration onto a new host vehicle, using standard roof bars, in just 20 minutes. The V-Mapper solution on offer from 3D Laser Mapping also includes end-to-end training and support from experts in mobile mapping systems.
“There are traditionally two grades of GPS based navigation and mapping – mapping and survey. Although V-Mapper is described as a mapping grade system the accuracies we have achieved place it firmly within the survey grade specification – well ahead of other systems on the market,” commented Dr Graham Hunter, founder and Chairman of 3D Laser Mapping.
“StreetMapper will retain its position as the most accurate mobile laser mapper on the market; achieving proven accuracies, in real world trials, of better than 10 mm,” continued Dr Hunter. “However V-Mapper, being more compact, portable and affordable, is the perfect solution for applications and projects where accuracies in the region of 20 mm are required.”
In order to achieve such high levels of project accuracy V-Mapper utilises a precision navigation system with inertial measurement unit, satellite (GPS and GLONASS) receivers and an optional odometer. Vehicle mounted laser scanners offer a 360 degree field of view, 100 metre range and 20 millimetre accuracy while a panoramic camera with 30 megapixel resolution captures up to 7 time stamped frames per second. The innovative design and integration of the V-Mapper system components ensure the system is ultra-portable, easy to mount / dismount and suitable for use in a range of environments.
“As V-Mapper has been designed and developed by the team behind the market leading StreetMapper, it shares many of the same credentials,” continued Dr Graham Hunter, “we are also able to deliver a complete package including delivery, installation, training and full after sales support from a world-wide network of regional offices and distributors.”
