Colorado – November 16, 2012 – Merrick & Company (www.merrick.com/infrastructure) is providing comprehensive Metropolitan District and Land Development engineering services for RidgeGate Commons (ridgegatecolorado.com) (Www.facebook.com/ridgegatecolorado) (Www.twitter.com/ridgegateco) mixed-use development in Lone Tree, CO. The RidgeGate master-planned community encompasses over 3,500 acres on both sides of I-25 at the south end of the Denver Metro area. Merrick has been involved with the Rampart Range Metropolitan District for over six years providing surveying and civil engineering services for the planning and design of water, wastewater, storm drainage and transportation infrastructure, site designs, utility coordination, processing and permitting, and construction phase services.
RidgeGate Commons, the newest retail center in RidgeGate is located in the southwest corner of the I-25 and RidgeGate Parkway interchange – just south of the Sky Ridge Medical Center. The center is anchored by the much-anticipated Cabela’s; the first of two Cabela’s planned along the I-25 corridor in Denver. Cabela’s anchors the 25 -acre RidgeGate Commons Three additional pads are planned for the site, and will include a hotel, additional retail and a restaurant.
“The site terrain was challenging; located on a very steep hillside, a substantial system of retaining walls was necessary on two sides of the site, making the utility, storm drainage and access designs challenging, not to mention the construction of the site work”, said Bryan Ruth, PE, Project Manager for Merrick.
An aggressive schedule to complete the planning, design and construction of the site work for Cabela’s necessitated a heroic effort by the Coventry Development Corporation team. “The site needed to be ready for Cabela’s to start vertical construction within nine months of us learning about the project; an aggressive schedule considering that roadways, access and utilities needed to be extended to the site, and over a half million cubic yards of earthwork and a significant system of retaining walls was required to meet the schedule. The schedule was met because of the extraordinary manner in which our Team worked together”, added Ken Linhardt, Senior Project Manager with Merrick.
The Rampart Range Metropolitan District, Coventry Development Corporation, Merrick, and the other design team members successfully coordinated with Cabela’s, the City of Lone Tree, Southgate Water and Sanitation District, the Colorado Department of Transportation, and the Cherry Creek Basin Authority to ensure that the needs and timing of Cabela’s were and will be met.
