3D Laser Mapping Launch Free Workshop Programme – Forensics

Nottingham, UK, 30  October 2012 – Following the launch in the UK of a new, innovative hand-held 3D imager, 3D Laser Mapping has announced a series of workshops designed to promote it’s benefits. The first, in the series of free–to-attend events, is aimed at potential users of the Mantis Vision imager from within the forensics market and will take place on 20 November 2012 in Loughborough. Additional application and market-specific events will be announced in due course.

“The MVC-F5 is ideally suited to the exacting requirements of users within law enforcement and forensic investigation,” commented event organiser Charlie Whyman of Nottingham based 3D Laser Mapping, distributor of the F5 in the UK, South Africa and Australia. She continued, “It’s small, light and easy to use. It can capture highly detailed crime scene data without the need to touch or tamper with crucial evidence.

“This event, and subsequent themed workshops, will provide potential users with an introduction to the concepts of 3D scanning, together with a thorough understanding of the benefits of the hand-held imager. Delegates will have the opportunity to get ‘hands on’ with the F5 and learn from experts and peers from within their sector.”

The Mantis Vision MVC-F5 is the only 3D imager specifically designed to meet the stringent demands of field use, operating at speed to capture millimetre-accurate measurements in seconds. It can be used on the move and is even covert; silent to operate and using infrared light that is naked to the visible eye. The F5 is ideally suited for use in complex and changing environments, where its size and speed of operation can be critical to a project’s success.

Demanding field users benefit from its rugged design and an easy to use interface makes it ideal for those with little or no experience of laser scanning. The collected data is compatible with common applications and content creation software, and the captured images can be quickly analysed with tools for measuring, triangulation and surface creation.

The first workshop will take place on 20 November at Burleigh Court, a four star hotel and conference centre situated minutes away from Junction 23 of the M1. The one-day event includes training materials and onsite refreshments and is free to attend; however advance registration is required and places are strictly limited. About the MVC-F5
The MVC-F5 is a handheld system that can be used in virtually any lighting condition and in temperatures from -10 to +50 degrees Centigrade, making it ideal for use in a wide variety of environments. Weighing just 1.7 kilograms the scanner can easily be held in the hand and used in hard to reach or cluttered spaces. The F5 can achieve data accuracies of up to 0.5 millimetres operating at ranges of up to 4.5 metres with a wide field of view and an exposure time of less than 0.001 of a second.
