Bergman Photographic Services Upgrades to UltraCamXp

Graz, Austria — December 28, 2011 — Bergman Photographic Services has contracted with Microsoft’s UltraCam business unit and subsidiary, Vexcel Imaging GmbH, to upgrade its UltraCamLp digital aerial photogrammetric camera to an UltraCamXp system.

In May 2009 Bergman took delivery of the first UltraCamL system to be based in the US Pacific Northwest, which was subsequently upgraded to the larger image footprint UltraCamLp when it became available a year later.

“Bergman Photographic was very meticulous in its research on digital cameras prior to the original purchase. We’re happy to say that the UltraCamL/Lp met all of our expectations extremely well for mapping quality, performance, and functionality,” stated Bruce Bergman, co-owner of Bergman Photographic Services.  “We now feel that it’s time to move up to the UltraCamXp to give us additional flexibility to pursue larger area projects.”

Bergman primarily provides its aerial mapping and oblique photography services to mapping companies in the western US.  The UltraCamXp will add new flight-planning and scheduling options by being able to collect at higher resolution and better accuracy at higher flying altitudes than film cameras.

“As Bergman Photographic adapts to changing customer demands and an evolving business climate, Microsoft is responsive through its upgrade program,” said Alexander Wiechert, Microsoft Business Director. “We work with individual companies to identify desired capabilities and help select the best solutions over time.”

About the UltraCamXp
The UltraCamXp photogrammetric digital aerial camera provides a pixel size of 6 micrometers and a footprint of 196 megapixels (17,310 across track x 11,310 along track). The resolution ratio of 1:3 between pan and color bands allows the production of high-resolution pan-sharpened products. The low-cost, exchangeable on-board storage devices hold up to 6,600 images each—approximately 4.2 terabytes of data. The vast storage capability allows for more efficient data collection as a result of uninterrupted image collection and minimal ground time.
