Graz, Austria — November 29, 2011 — Primul Meridian, a surveying and mapping firm based in Romania, has contracted with Microsoft’s UltraCam business unit and subsidiary, Vexcel Imaging GmbH, to purchase an UltraCamLp digital aerial photogrammetric camera system.
“Primul Meridian sees demand for digital aerial imagery in Romania growing over the next few years, so the time is right to augment our collection capabilities,” said Cristian Glont Dinu, General Manager, Primul Meridian. “The UltraCamLp will allow the firm to increase its production of high-quality photogrammetric surveys and maps and better serve our customers."
Primul Meridian will be using the UltraCamLp system for photogrammetric mapping and cadastral projects throughout Romania. The new camera will be used in conjunction with a dual laser scanner and a smaller footprint digital sensor, currently mounted on a Diamond DA42 MPP aircraft. The smaller form factor of the UltraCamLp system compared to that of the larger image footprint UltraCamXp systems, allows it to fit more easily alongside the company’s existing data acquisition technologies—also a factor for Primul Meridian in choosing the UltraCamLp.
“Microsoft is dedicated to providing our customers with aerial mapping systems that meet their specific needs,” said Alexander Wiechert, Microsoft Business Director. “We are pleased that Primul Meridian selected the UltraCamLp after a thorough review.”
About the UltraCamLp
The UltraCamLp combines innovative hardware, electronics and software that result in a light and compact camera system. The camera collects five spectral bands per exposure: red, green, blue and near-infrared data, in addition to the higher-resolution panchromatic data. The UltraCamLp features an image footprint collection capacity of 92 megapixels (11,704 x 7,920 pixels pan), made possible through advanced electronics and a CCD array of just 6 ìm. The system is ideal for smaller large-scale and photogrammetric projects, high-resolution (true) orthophoto production, DSM (digital surface model) production, aerotriangulation, ortho mapping and 3D technical vector mapping.
