Aurora, CO – OCTOBER 14, 2011 – Merrick & Company’s geospatial and surveying business unit was recently awarded a contract with Henrico County, VA, to collect and process digital orthophototography, planimetric mapping, and topographic products and services. The work is being done during a three year cycle and will include capturing aerial digital oblique imagery of a 244 square mile area. Having worked with Henrico County and the county’s GIS tiling infrastructure; Merrick’s knowledge of the County’s control network, coordinate system, and tile structure will ensure meeting the current and future needs of the County.
For the initial cycle, Merrick is providing the countywide aerial photography that supports the imagery creation and mapping-related activities of Henrico County. The data is being collected simultaneously carrying remote sensing technologies such as the Leica ALS50 and Merrick’s Digital Airborne Camera System (DACS™). With the use of aircraft, digital sensors, airborne GPS units and inertial measurement unit (IMU) methods; data is post processed and integrated into a precise location that is used for geo-referencing and to support subsequent photogrammetric mapping and orthorectification of the digital imagery. Merrick’s annual aerial updates to the County will be used for regional planning, tax assessment, and engineering purposes.
Merrick & Company, an $125 million geospatial, engineering, architecture, design-build, and surveying firm, serves domestic and international clients by providing geospatial technologies, products, and services for the sustainable infrastructure, energy, and national security markets.
