Wade Trim-designed Sugarmill Woods Water Treatment Plant Opens for Business

Tampa, Fla. – Recently, County Commissioners, contractors and community leaders from Sugarmill Woods commemorated the overhaul and expansion project for Citrus County’s Sugarmill Woods Water Treatment Plant No. 2 that serves Sugarmill Woods and Chassahowitzka.

Wade Trim – a leading water/wastewater, civil engineering, transportation, and planning firm – was responsible for expansion design and plant upgrades. “This will greatly benefit the community and Wade Trim was happy to be a part of the collaborative project,” said Tom Brzezinski, PE, Executive Vice President of Wade Trim.

District 2 County Commissioner John “JJ” Kenney cut the ribbon for the $1.3 million project, which doubles the plant’s storage capacity to 1 million gallons, adds an emergency generator to ensure operation in emergencies, ensures better water pressure, adds reserves in case of fires during high water use times, and lowers electric and operational costs by about $100,000 a year due to efficiencies installed in the overhaul of the wells, controls and equipment.

The following Sugarmill Woods community leaders attended the commemoration: Duane Dueker, president of Sugarmill Woods Civic Association; Warren Blodgett, president of Cypress Village Property Owners Association; and Ted Sope, president of Oak Village Association.

The project added a large storage tank and overhauled and replaced controls at the plant. The project began four years ago when necessary upgrades at the plant were identified. The plant creates the ability to maintain a consistent water pressure much better than before, and it will mean the plant never has less than 10 hours of reserves in case of a large fire.

In addition to Wade Trim, the project utilized five contractors for the many facets of the upgrade, including: Prime Construction Group, EC Electrical Contractors, Curry Controls, Gaudette Electric, and Citrus Well Drilling.
