March 1, 2011 – Merrick & Company, an international engineering, architecture, design-build, surveying, and geospatial solutions firm, has acquired the civil engineering, land planning, and landscape architecture firm of Turnbull Metzler Design of Charlotte, NC. Turnbull Metzler Design (TMD) has served the institutional, municipal, and corporate markets in the southeastern U.S. since 1987. This acquisition provides TMD with the opportunity to extend its reach throughout the U.S. and provides Merrick with the opportunity of expanding the firm’s professional services with the addition of land planning and landscape architecture services while enhancing Merrick’s geographic footprint in the region.
“The addition of TMD to our employee-owned firm bolsters Merrick’s service offerings to clients, especially those in the southeast,” said Ralph W. Christie, Jr., PE, Chair, President, and CEO of Merrick. “The acquisition broadens and deepens Merrick’s capabilities in this geographic area.”
With the addition of TMD to the organization, Merrick now maintains 12 offices that serve clients in the energy, national security, science & technology, and sustainable infrastructure markets. Nine of the offices are located in the U.S., with an additional office in Ontario, Canada and two offices in Mexico. The firm is committed to sustainable design and construction practices through its 55+ LEED-accredited professionals and is continually expanding its in-house resources to serve tomorrow’s needs.
