October 26, 2010 – Westbank, BC – MicroSurvey is excited to announce that STAR*NET, one of the most popular software products used by land surveyors, has been purchased by the Canadian software developer. After several years of negotiations, Ron Sawyer, president of Starplus Software, Inc. and Darcy Detlor, president of MicroSurvey met in Oakland, California to transfer the product line to MicroSurvey. Ron is retiring from the business after 22 years of developing and supplying STAR*NET to the Land Surveying industry.
“This is a great day for STAR*NET customers”, stated Darcy Detlor, “The program will be carried on with improvements and modernization where needed, but we will make sure we keep the simplicity and elegance of the product intact. STAR*NET is without a doubt the most popular Least Squares Adjustment package on the market and with the help of its users, we will make sure that continues for many years to come.”
Some of the improvements that MicroSurvey has planned are better operation under Windows 7, improved DWG/DXF support, improved graphics, larger network adjustment capabilities, and research into creating a 64 bit version to take advantage of the larger memory space available in modern computers.
“I am ready to pass STAR*NET onto a new group, but it was critical to me that the product would not be put on a shelf by some big company.”, said Ron Sawyer, “MicroSurvey has shown a strong interest in the program and I believe they will grow STAR*NET sales both in North America and throughout the world in many countries and a variety of languages.”
