Aurora, CO – October 12, 2010 – Merrick & Company is providing surveying services to the US Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, for Luke Air Force Base’s (Luke AFB) Barry M. Goldwater Bombing Range East, the Gila Bend Auxiliary Field, and Auxiliary 1 Airfield at Luke AFB. Luke AFB is located west of Phoenix, Arizona, and is the largest and only active duty F-16 training base in the world. Merrick’s surveying team will be recovering and establishing boundary monuments for the three locations.
Luke Air Force Base was named for the first aviator to receive the Medal of Honor, Lieutenant Frank Luke Jr., 1897 – 1918. The Barry M. Goldwater Range is an integral part of Luke’s F-16 fighter pilot training mission. The 1.8 million acre range is located southwest of Luke AFB and includes the Gila Bend Auxiliary Field that serves as the hub for operations and maintenance on the BMGR. The Luke AFB 1,100-acre Auxiliary 1 Airfield is located approximately 15 miles northwest of Luke AFB.
