Trimble Introduces New Digital Sensor System for Aerial Mapping

Fast, Flexible, Medium-Format Digital Imaging System Designed for High-Productivity Ortho Mapping and Stereo Imaging

Cologne, Germany, Oct. 5, 2010 — Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) introduced today the Trimble® DSS WideAngle, the latest option for its medium-format, directly georeferenced aerial imaging system. Capable of producing highly accurate orthophotos, stereo photos, and mosaics, the Trimble Digital Sensor System (DSS) WideAngle option is designed as a high-productivity, mapping-grade solution for color-orthophoto and vertical mapping applications.

The announcement was made today at INTERGEO 2010, the world’s largest conference on geodesy, geoinformatics and land management.

By combining wide coverage and excellent stereo image geometry with low operating costs, the Trimble DSS WideAngle provides a significant productivity advantage for aerial mapping companies. Its medium-format, single-frame 60-megapixel camera delivers wide swaths of crisp, well-balanced digital color stereo imagery that are ideal for linear, irregular or small area mapping projects. Available lens options provide exceptional base-to-height ratio, enabling efficient digital elevation model (DEM) generation and contour mapping.

"The Trimble DSS WideAngle is a practical, cost-effective solution for many aerial mapping applications," said Adam Evans, product manager for the Trimble DSS. “And like all Trimble DSS systems, it has the key advantage of Direct Georeferencing technology, reducing the need for expensive and time-consuming ground control collection.”

With options for pilot-only operation and easy integration on single-engine aircraft and helicopter platforms, the Trimble DSS offers high performance with low operating costs. Designed for flexible system deployment, efficient mission planning and simple post-mission image processing workflow, the Trimble DSS WideAngle includes:
• A 60-megapixel metric camera
• User-interchangeable 35mm and 50mm lens options
• Integrated POS AV™ direct georeferencing system
• POSTrack™ Flight Management System
• Ruggedized data logger and pressurized drive
• Complete post-mission processing software

The Trimble DSS WideAngle is fully compatible with Trimble INPHO photogrammetric software.

Trimble offers clients on-site installation and training, worldwide customer support and a yearly maintenance and warranty program. The Trimble DSS WideAngle is available now through Trimble’s aerial mapping distribution channel.

The Trimble DSS is built upon Applanix’s innovative GNSS-aided inertial technology and systems integration expertise. The full range of Trimble’s mobile mapping systems, airborne systems, and photogrammetry & digital surface modeling solutions can be found in Trimble’s GeoSpatial product line.
