Langan Opens Office in Pittsburgh to Support Marcellus Shale Industry

Elmwood Park, New Jersey (July 14, 2010) – Langan Engineering & Environmental Services officially announced that it has opened an office in Pittsburgh, its fourth in Pennsylvania. While the new office will provide fully integrated technical services to typical Langan clients, the impetus behind the establishment of operations in Western Pennsylvania is to support the exploration and extraction efforts related to the Marcellus Shale, a large natural gas bearing formation underlying the Allegheny Plateau with significant portions in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York.

The new office, Langan’s 16th  worldwide, is located in the Southpointe Business Complex just off I-79 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.  Southpointe has emerged as a hub for Marcellus Industry companies. The Pittsburgh team will be led by Gerard Coscia, PE, a Senior Associate at Langan with 25 years experience leading major environmental remediation projects for utilities, chemical companies, and brownfield developers.

“We view the exploration and development of the Marcellus Shale in Western Pennsylvania as a tremendous opportunity for Langan, and we have the consummate technical professional and team leader in Gerry Coscia to manage our new office in Pittsburgh,” said David T. Gockel, President/CEO of Langan. “This is a new frontier for the energy industry and it will require the best technical consultants to support it, and that is where Langan belongs.”

Energy experts estimate that there is enough natural gas within the Marcellus Shale to power every home in the United States for more than 25 years. To produce and transmit the natural gas in an environmentally sound and compliant manner, the natural gas industry will rely heavily on the type of multi-disciplined engineering and regulatory support services that Langan provides.

“Langan has already leveraged relationships with existing clients based in Pittsburgh and formed new relationships with several major natural gas companies focused on the Marcellus Shale,” said Coscia. “We have an extremely motivated and knowledgeable team focused on the region, and we look forward to promoting the Langan brand by deploying our unique suite of technical services in the region.”
