Blue Marble to present at 2010 Maine GIS Annual Meeting and GIS Summer School

Gardiner, Maine – June 18th, 2010 – Blue Marble Geographics (www.bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce its participation at the 2010 Maine GIS Annual Meeting and GIS Summer School. Elizabeth Teret of Blue Marble will present a talk on Coordinate System Fundamentals on June 25th at the annual meeting in Portland, Maine. The Annual Meeting and Summer School will be held at the Eastland Park Hotel on June 25th. This has become a very popular event, with excellent workshops and opportunities to network with other GIS professionals. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software companies, universities, oil and gas companies, civil engineering, surveying, technology, enterprise GIS groups, government and military organizations.

Teret, a Blue Marble Technical Support Specialist, will be presenting an introduction or refresher on the basics of geodesy. Topics to be covered include: ellipsoids, datums, and geodetic systems; cartesian and projected systems; datum transformations; and other issues of coordinate conversion. Blue Marble has a long track record of training surveyors and GIS users about the intricacies of geodetics, including coordinate systems, projections, datums, and other essential concepts, through applied hands-on software training. Maine has a rich history in surveying and mapping and today’s students should learn more about GIS as it is a great scientific tool. Whether you’re an expert in GIS or just starting out this is essential to understanding the real concepts behind mapping. Blue Marble Geographics has been creating geographic software for many years, and has encountered the same challenges that you face every day.
