Merrick & Company’s Sanchez Acquires Multiple ASPRS Certifications

Aurora, CO – January 21, 2010 – Ricardo Sanchez of Merrick & Company’s GeoSpatial Solutions business unit (Merrick GeoSpatial Solutions) and Merrick’s Latin America projects coordinator, has acquired multiple certifications from the American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS).   Following the completion of extensive examinations, Sanchez is now a Certified Photogrammetrist and a Certified Mapping Scientist – Remote Sensing.  He is working on his third certification in geographic information systems.

ASPRS is a scientific association serving over 7,000 professional members around the world.  The organization’s mission is to advance knowledge and improve understanding of mapping sciences to promote the responsible applications of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems, and supporting technologies.  It’s unusual for an individual to pursue and acquire more than one certification.

To acquire the photogrammetrist certification, an individual must pass an extensive written examination as well as have six years of experience in photogrammetry, including three years in a position of responsibility, have references from professionals in the industry, and to declare a commitment to ASPRS’ code of ethics.  To obtain the Certified Mapping Scientist certification, an individual must also pass a written examination, have three years of experience at a professional level, provide professional references, and commit to the code of ethics as well.

Sanchez holds his BS in civil engineering from the Colombian School of Engineering and has additional studies in various technologies used in the industry.  He is a registered professional engineer and has been with Merrick for seven years.
