Norcross, Georgia (USA) — ERDAS announces that Cyprus University of Technology has selected ERDAS APOLLO to manage and deliver its massive amounts of vector and raster data for several National Offices in Cyprus. GEOINFORMATION S.A., the distributor of ERDAS in Greece, is customizing ERDAS APOLLO to meet the University’s specific needs.
ERDAS APOLLO is an out-of-the-box, standards-based Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) solution that efficiently manages and quickly serves massive amounts of geospatial data located and distributed across an organization. ERDAS APOLLO simplifies the utilization of vector, raster and terrain data, seamlessly integrating with existing GIS environments, leveraging business systems and supporting almost any kind of data input (including ArcSDE, PostGIS & Oracle). With a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), ERDAS APOLLO is fully equipped with publishing and consuming capabilities.
Cyprus University of Technology was founded in 2003, welcoming its first students in 2007. Focusing on applied research, the University supports the state’s science and technology needs. The University exploits complex acquisition, analysis, elaboration and interpretation techniques for qualitative and quantitative information derived from 2D and 3D geographic information. Applications range from topographic, hydrographic, geodetic and geophysical surveys, remote sensing and geographical information systems (GIS) for local and regional planning, environmental monitoring, archaeology and coastal management.
“With technical support and customization from GEOINFORMATION S.A., ERDAS APOLLO meets all of the University’s geospatial data management and delivery needs,” said Thomas Bayer, Vice President EMEA, ERDAS. “With ERDAS APOLLO, the University can quickly respond to data requests from Cyprus governmental agencies, delivering the data they need for decision-making processes.”
Providing a seamless solution, ERDAS APOLLO was implemented to promote the University’s cooperation with local industry and the economic sector, providing services to various ministries and municipally offices via a web application. Previously, the University was using a desktop application to handle their large quantities of data. All of this data is now stored and managed in ERDAS APOLLO and delivered via a geoportal, providing OGC services.
“ERDAS APOLLO benefits the local community through the services we are now able to provide, “ said Dr Diofantos Hadjimitsis, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering of Geomatics. “ERDAS APOLLO is now storing and managing the coverage of Cyprus Island with orthorectified imagery from different satellite sensors.”
The Department of Civil Engineering of Geomatics at the Cyprus University of Technology is also using ERDAS IMAGINE Professional, IMAGINE Vector, IMAGINE VirtualGIS, ERDAS ER Mapper and LPS.
