Industry experts to expand the firm’s engineering and surveying capabilities
Charlotte, NC—February 10, 2009 – Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, announced the promotion of Timothy A. Rudolph, PLS, to senior associate; the promotion of Christopher M. Fleck, PE, to engineering department manager; and the hiring of Frederic Shmurak, PE, as water resources engineering department manager at the Charlotte, North Carolina, office.
Rudolph, an industry veteran with more than 34 years’ surveying experience, manages the operations of the surveying department for the Charlotte office. His experience includes boundary, topographic, construction, GPS, route, and hydrographic surveys. A registered land surveyor in North Carolina for 28 years, Rudolph has completed work on numerous large-scale municipal utility, drainage, roadway, and rail projects.
His career accomplishments include 23 miles of boundary retracement for the Tennessee Valley Authority; sewer interceptor inventory and mapping for the Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County; hurricane barrier design surveys for Onslow and Kure beaches for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; National Geodetic Survey Height Modernization, Wake County, North Carolina, “NGS-58” research project; and system-wide water and sewer mapping project for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities.
In his new role as the engineering department manager, Fleck will be responsible for overseeing all engineering activities with a focus on site and civil development, marketing, and office growth. He holds particular interest in staff development and mentoring programs.
An industry veteran with more than 14 years’ experience in civil engineering and land development, Fleck previously served as a senior project manager with the firm. He has been involved in the planning, design, and project management for residential, commercial, and industrial developments including single and multiple-family developments, subdivisions, site condominiums, and planned unit developments as well as dam enhancement, park development, and stormwater capital improvement projects.
Fleck holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Michigan State University and maintains professional engineering licensure in Michigan and North Carolina.
In his role as the water resources engineering department manager, Shmurak will be responsible for leading and managing water resources engineering staff, and providing technical oversight and marketing services in North Carolina and South Carolina. Shmurak has over 16 years’ engineering experience with 12 years’ engineering leadership and management experience. He has worked extensively in the areas of water resources engineering, civil and site design, and geotechnical engineering.
A registered professional engineer in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, Shmurak holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina; and a master’s degree with specialization in water resources and environmental fluid hydraulics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. His membership in various civic and fraternal organizations includes Tau Beta Pi, National Engineering Honor Society; Sigma Iota Delta, The Citadel Civil Engineering Honor Society; and a governor-appointed membership to the Low County Resource Conservation and Development Authority of South Carolina.
