Integration of reflectorless laser technology and field data collection software improves field worker efficiency, profitability and safety
Centennial and Fort Collins, Colo. – February 10, 2009 – CartoPac Field Solutions, powered by Spatial Data Technologies, Inc. (http://www.cartopac.com) and Laser Technology, Inc. (LTI) (http://www.lasertech.com/360), today announced they have joined forces to provide an integrated technology that allows CartoPac Mobile users to automatically download measurements collected using LTI’s TruPulse lasers. The new relationship streamlines field data collection for field workers in utilities, oil and gas, railroad, natural resources and other industries managing large amounts of geographically dispersed assets.
Laser-based measurement products from LTI enable field workers to capture hard-to-reach measurements from a distance. By using reflectorless laser technology, field workers can capture precise measurements without scaling rocks, wading into water, or taking other unnecessary risks to capture field data. CartoPac Mobile software gives field workers mobile access to the enterprise database from a handheld computer, making it easy to collect, share and manage field data.
By allowing the LTI TruPulse lasers to interface with the CartoPac Mobile technology seamlessly, field workers can automatically pull information from the laser into the mobile device, thereby saving time in the field. Information such as, angle, bearing and distance are automatically populated, simplifying the data collection process for the field workers.
“LTI is a known leader at providing innovative, laser-based technology, and many of our customers are already using LTI lasers to collect data in the field,” said Glenn Vlass, president of CartoPac Field Solutions. “Both companies share a common goal of enabling field workers to be more efficient, and this partnership takes that commitment one step further. By working together, we’re actually giving field workers the ability to map more while moving less.”
CartoPac Mobile 2.5 offers laser offset controls so users can easily collect and store height, elevation, line, position and even area data using the standard serial data port found on LTI’s TruPulse lasers or with a Bluetooth® model. CartoPac 2.5 has the capability for automatic or one-click post-processing, which again makes for faster and easier data collection. LTI’s newest laser, the TruPulse® 360, is the first integrated compass, inclinometer and distance laser that delivers mapping-grade accuracy regardless of what angle you shoot from.
“CartoPac is at the forefront of providing technology that makes organizations with large numbers of field workers more efficient and, ultimately, more profitable,” said Steve Colburn, National Sales Director at LTI. “CartoPac is a reseller of LTI products, and we’ve worked together in the past to customize solutions for shared customers. Now, we’re excited to offer an off-the-shelf solution that makes it easier to collect and work with data in hard-to-reach locations.”
