Southington, Conn. – January 20, 2009 – In November of 1988, Superior Instrument was formed as a division of Superior Products Distributors, Inc. to address the advances in technology and instrumentation needs of surveyors and contractors in the state of Connecticut. On Friday November 14, 2008, Superior Instrument held a full day event at the Holiday Inn located in Waterbury, CT, to commemorate their twenty years of business. Over one hundred Superior customers attended this function, where participants were able to engage in free seminars, training classes, breakfast and lunch. Many door prizes and raffle prizes were given out throughout the day in celebration of Superior Instrument’s important milestone. The Grand Prize winner of a beautiful Vermont Castings Signature Series, stainless steel gas grill went to Mike Mason of Mason Land Surveyors in East Lyme, CT. Congratulations went out to Mike and all of the winners.
For twenty years, Superior Instrument has specialized in the sales and repair services of construction lasers, machine control and surveying instruments. Superior provides their customers with tools from some of the leading brands in the industry including- Topcon, Trimble, TDS, Magellan and Carlson Software. A representative from each of these vendors was present at Superior’s anniversary event to provide attendees with equipment and software knowledge, hands-on training, and to answer any of their product related questions. “Despite the economic gloom, our twenty year anniversary seemed like the perfect opportunity to give something back to our customers,” said Michael Jiantonio, General Manager at Superior Instrument.
Each training class and seminar was geared towards offering attendees information on the latest technology and helping them to understand both existing and new products. Ray Kerwin from TDS was on hand to show TDS’s entry into the GPS and Robotics markets, and to answer tech support questions from users of Survey Pro software. Magellan’s Ben Sullivan was busy showing Magellan’s GIS mapping and RTK GPS. And Superior Instrument’s own Robert Orris, Jeremy Smith and Michael Jiantonio offered a seminar on basic GPS technology that provided benefits to both beginner and experienced users equally.
In addition, many of the discussions held during this event were focused on ways to help users minimize time and money spent on jobsites and to improve productivity throughout their business. Jim Carlson, John O’Brien and Gary Rosen from Carlson Software showed the latest features of Carlson’s 2009 line of software including a viable alternative to AutoCAD. Hank Boudreau of Topcon presented his group with the 2009 Topcon Technology Road Show, where attendees got a first hand look at Topcon’s latest innovations in hardware, software and technology . John Corrigan of Trimble demonstrated the Trimble Layout Manager to concrete contractors and offered valuable tips on improving accuracy and efficiency.
“Education is the key to success, and it is seldom free. Our twenty year anniversary was the perfect time for us to offer our customers the opportunity to learn something new and position them for success in the future.” stated Robert Orris, Instrument Specialist at Superior Instrument.
With a great deal of support from Superior Instrument’s vendors and customers, their twentieth anniversary gathering was a day loaded with valuable education, great food, and most importantly, superior relationships. “This event was a perfect example of how good relationships between supplier, manufacturers, and end users are so important to everyone’s success” said Jeremy Smith, Instrument Specialist from Superior Instrument.
