Merrick & Company Opens San Antonio, TX Office

David Yang to Manage Military, Government and Infrastructure Projects

San Antonio, Texas – November 20, 2008 – Merrick & Company, (http://www.merrick.com) a $75 million engineering, architecture, surveying, and geospatial solutions firm, has opened a new office in San Antonio, Texas. The firm has been involved in the planning and design of projects in Texas for over 15 years and, through this new office, will continue to provide ongoing services to existing clients while expanding the office through new projects in the region and nationally and internationally.
“Merrick has had a long-standing presence in Texas”, said David Huelskamp, senior vice president for the firm. “We’ve recently completed the Basic Expeditionary Airmen Skills Training Complex located at Lackland Air Force Base (AFB), and are now involved in the planning and design of a $750 million Air Force Basic Military Training Complex to be located at Lackland as well”.

According to Huelskamp, when completed, the Basic Military Training Complex at Lackland will be composed of 12 facilities including eight airmen training complexes, each consisting of 262,000 square feet of dormitory and administrative space. The overall complex will include eight weapons cleaning complexes, multiple 300,000-square-foot drill pads, a central utilities plant, war skills training areas, running tracks/exercise areas, and four dining/training facilities housing food preparation kitchens, dining areas, and training classrooms.

Through this new office, Merrick will also manage and service its recently awarded, five-year international indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity 4PAE contract. The contract was assigned by the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment (AFCEE) located at Brooks City-Base, San Antonio to multiple firms to provide professional services to the U.S. government for environmental, military construction, military family housing, and facility sustainment, restoration, and modernization projects worldwide. 

David L. Yang will be the program manager for the office.  Yang brings over 20 years of experience to the firm including his most recent work at Randolph AFB where he headed up a 31-person team and executed projects at 13 Air Force installations. His resume also includes work in Afghanistan and Korea and at Keesler AFB (MS), Travis AFB (CA), and Hickam AFB (HI) as well as for the Pentagon.

Merrick’s past work in Texas includes military projects at Dyess AFB, Laughlin AFB, Kelly AFB, Goodfellow AFB, Randolph AFB, Fort Hood, Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis as well as non-military projects for the Baylor College of Medicine and the Brownsville Public Utilities Board. Additional projects are being completed throughout the U.S. and internationally by Merrick including work in renewable energy, precision mapping, research laboratories, and non-reactor nuclear design for both the private and public sectors.
