Sprenkle Appointed New COO of Merrick & Company

Aurora, Colorado –  Sept. 24, 2008 —  David A. Sprenkle, P.E. has been appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Merrick & Company according to Ralph W. Christie, Jr. P.E., board chair, president, and chief executive officer.  In his new role, Sprenkle will be responsible for overseeing the accomplishment of the firm’s $75 million annual portfolio of professional services.  Sprenkle has twice served on the firm’s Board of Directors for a total of 18 years and is currently a senior vice president with the company.  He is also chairman of the board for Merrick Advanced Photogrammetry of the Americas (MAPA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Merrick & Company, and chairman of the board for MMI/ETOH, Inc., another subsidiary of the company that owns an ethanol plant that provides biofuel processing for Molson Coors Brewing Company.

“We’re excited to have Dave as our new COO.  He has a long history with the firm and with our clients.  His experience, knowledge, and expertise in this key role will serve as a solid base for the firm as we continue to grow,” according to Christie.

Prior to taking on this new appointment, Sprenkle managed Merrick’s corporate and project support department, where he oversaw the financial and administrative aspects of the firm as a senior vice president.  During his 28-year tenure with Merrick, Sprenkle has held other key positions including business unit leader and project manager. 

Sprenkle’s career includes five years of active duty service in the U.S. Air Force following his graduation from the Air Force Academy.   He served in the Colorado Air National Guard for the past 28 years and recently retired from the position of Assistant Adjutant General for Air for the State of Colorado as a brigadier general.   He received an M.B.A. degree from the University of Denver as well as an M.S. degree from the University of Southern California.

Sprenkle is the 2008 – 2009 national president of the Association of A/E Business Leaders, formerly known as the Professional Services Management Association, an organization devoted to promoting best practices for leading professional engineering and architecture firms.   His other professional activities include holding membership in the Society of Military Engineers (SAME) as a Fellow, serving as president of the Education Foundation for the National Guard Association of Colorado, and, for the past three years, serving on the advisory board of Lexington Insurance Company, a professional liability insurance firm.
