Fugro EarthData Awarded Task Order For U.S. National Guard Bureau

Fugro EarthData, Inc., has been awarded over USD1.9 million in multiple task orders by the U.S. National Guard Bureau (NGB) for updated mapping over thirty-one domestic military installations through 2009. The work, which includes orthoimagery as well as planimetric and topographic mapping, is being issued through the company’s existing indefinite delivery contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and will support military training, environmental management, and real property assessment.

“State National Guard staff appreciates the longstanding relationship we’ve developed with Fugro EarthData,” said Mark Parthum of the NGB Readiness Center. NGB environmental, installations, and training programs oversee the mapping of 140 National Guard sites on a 5-year update cycle. “There is good value to working with a contractor that understands procedure and consistently delivers quality products.”

The 2008 task orders represent a shift in the National Guard’s digital land base mapping program, which has moved toward all-digital mapping technologies. Fugro EarthData is accomplishing the work using a Leica ADS40-SH52 digital imaging sensor and Pixel Factory™ processing. In addition to providing faster project turnaround, the all-digital approach provides options for expanded applications. Examples include vegetation mapping from color-infrared imagery simultaneously acquired during the original aerial mission and detailed photogrammetric feature compilation for more accurate real property valuation.

The thirty-one sites together total more than 267,824 acres. Final deliverables are scheduled for spring 2009 and comprise 1:1,200 scale natural color and color-infrared digital orthoimagery, as well as planimetric and topographic data layers.
