Bowyer-Singleton’s Bridge Design Open To Traffic

Orlando, Fla. (August 25, 2008) – The official ribbon cutting of the Canoe Creek Road Bridge north of Kenansville in Osceola County marked the completion of a successful design project by Bowyer-Singleton & Associates, a full-service civil engineering firm based in Orlando that has built a reputation for excellence in structural engineering.

Mainly to be used by commercial traffic, the replacement for the 50-year-old bridge consists of three spans and was constructed with pre-cast bridge deck panels. Bowyer-Singleton designed the project utilizing a temporary pre-fabricated AcrowBridge that the county rented from the Department of Transportation.

“Because of the deteriorating condition of the existing bridge, the county would have had to restrict weight load which would have been debilitating for the local commercial sod industry,” said Craig Noon, Manager of Structural Design at Bowyer-Singleton. “We incorporated the AcrowBridge and designed the temporary detour route to allow traffic to remain open along this road during construction.”

Along with designing the replacement, temporary detour road and substructure for the temporary bridge, Bowyer-Singleton performed survey services and hydrologic studies, designed additional drainage and lined the channel with concrete rubble.

“Thanks to the hard work of a lot of people this is another project that was finished ahead of schedule,” said Osceola County Commissioner Bill Lane, District 5.
