Detroit, MI (July 16, 2006) – – Catherine M. DeDecker, P.S. was recently named Construction Woman of the Year by the Detroit Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). DeDecker is Vice President, Survey Project Manager and the Office Manager for the Trenton, Michigan branch office of Spalding DeDecker Associates, Inc. (SDA), a Detroit-based civil engineering and surveying firm.

DeDecker began her career with SDA in 1985 and was named by the SDA Board as an Associate in 1997. In 2006, she was named Vice President when elected to the company’s Board of Directors. She was recently appointed by Governor Jennifer Granholm to a four year term on the State Board of Land Surveyors.
DeDecker graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Land Surveying in 1998 from Michigan Technological University (MTU). In 1999, she successfully passed the Michigan licensing exam and passed the Ohio licensing exam in 2005. She is a member of the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS) and has served as Past-President, President, Vice President, Director, and Chapter Representative of the Southeast Chapter. She has served on the Act 299 exam committee as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and as a member of the Advisory committee to the MTU Land Surveying Program and to the Macomb Community College Surveying Program. DeDecker is currently serving as Director and Liaison to the Membership Committee for CREW-Detroit (Commercial Real Estate Women).
The NAWIC is dedicated to enhancing the success of women in the primarily male-dominated construction industry. In it’s nearly 50 years of service, NAWIC has advanced the causes of all women in construction from business owners to tradeswomen. NAWIC has a membership of more than 5,800 individuals with close to 200 chapters in almost every State and Canada. The Detroit Chapter is the largest in Region 4, which consists of Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia.
