David Mudrick Is New CEO of Topcon Holding Company

Paramus, New Jersey — David Mudrick has been named the new president and chief executive officer of Topcon America Corporation. He assumed this new position as head of the management holding company for Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) and Topcon Medical Systems (TMS) on June 29.

In his new position, Mudrick is responsible for the financial, human resources, and legal areas of Topcon Positioning Systems and Topcon Medical Systems. The companies employ more than 650.

Mudrick replaces Susumu “Scott” Hokari, who has rejoined the executive staff of Topcon Corporation in Japan.

With this appointment, he becomes the first person of non-Japanese descent to hold this executive position in the company’s 37-year history in the United States.

“I am excited about the future of our businesses here in the United States and throughout the world,” Mudrick said. “With Topcon’s strong commitment to product development and quick, positive attention to customer needs, we are confident in our objective to lead every market we enter,” he said.

“We will continue to lead the Topcon America Group with a strong focus on innovation throughout every aspect of the organization and a keen respect of our company’s tremendous history.”

Mudrick, 41, has been with Topcon since 1993 and has served as the company’s executive vice president and chief financial officer for the past seven years.

Ray O’Connor, president and CEO of Topcon Positioning, said Mudrick’s promotion is "well deserved and confirms what a great team Topcon has built in the United States."

O’Connor, a member of the executive management team of the positioning business for Topcon Corporation, headquartered in Tokyo, said, "With his long background with TPS, David’s leading the Topcon holding company is the right move at the right time to ensure the continued growth of TPS.

"He knows the company from the inside, understands its mission and goals, and is absolutely the right person for the job. Our longtime personal and professional relationship guarantees an open line of communication and understanding on the best way to grow our business, both key ingredients in any successful company."

During his tenure at Topcon, Mudrick has helped lead an aggressive acquisition and growth strategy. In 2001, he led Topcon’s American operations through a major reorganization, establishing a holding company in New Jersey, with business units independently managed. In that reorganization, the company streamlined its accounting, legal, tax, treasury, information services, and human resources functions.

In 2004, Mudrick was named by New Jersey Business Magazine as a recipient of their “Forty under 40” Award, recognizing business people in the state who have established themselves as innovative leaders in their businesses and communities.

He is also a board member of The Russian American Chamber of Commerce – an organization whose mission is to promote and expand American companies who do business in Russia.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from New Jersey’s Montclair State University and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, in Durham, N .C. A Certified Public Accountant since 1989, Mudrick began his career with Ernst & Young.
