Topcon has world’s first integrated GIS collection and land survey system

GMS-110 ‘perfect’ for advanced GIS professionals

Livermore, CA — The world’s first integrated GIS data collection and land survey system – the GMS-110 – has been introduced by Topcon Positioning Systems.

This “premier instrument” will operate with software solutions based on ESRI’s ArcPad and is “perfect for the advanced GIS professional,” said Mike Weir, worldwide GIS sales manager. The GMS-110 is also compatible with Topcon’s TopSURV-GIS, featuring both GIS data collection and land surveying functions.

The GMS-110 is designed to work with Topcon’s FC-100 field computer, featuring a color touch screen and Windows CE® operating system. Both TopPAD and TopSURV-GIS applications can be loaded on the FC-100, empowering the user with ultimate flexibility in the field. Other field data controllers can also be used with the system.

This compact instrument incorporates all of the primary position correction services – Coast Guard Beacon, WAAS, EGNOS, and OmniSTAR®-VBS. Internal lithium-ion batteries power the unit for 14 hours for the long work days. Topcon’s integrated system design and Bluetooth® wireless technology eliminate external cables and components, making the GMS-110 a versatile, easily portable backpack GIS solution.

Weir said Topcon’s role is growing in the rapidly expanding field of GIS. “This is an exciting time for the professional collecting data to support GIS mapping applications,” he said. “Surveyors and GIS Professionals can look to Topcon for innovative, cost effective solutions for data collection. The GMS-110 marks the beginning of many new products specifically designed for these applications.”
