International LIDAR Mapping Forum 2006 Announces Venue Hotel

The most important event of the year for the LIDAR mapping industry will take place in Denver, Colorado on February 13 and 14, 2006 at the Grand Hyatt Denver Downtown. The International LIDAR Mapping Forum (ILMF) 2006 has become the “Summit” for LIDAR professionals as well as those wanting to expand their knowledge base of the technology and its applications.

ILMF was able to secure a special conference rate of $119 per night for accommodations at the Grand Hyatt Denver Downtown, an attractive, premium property located at 1750 Welton St., Denver, CO  80202. Accommodations for the conference can be reserved by calling 1(800) 233-1234 and asking for the “ILMF conference” rate.

The International LIDAR Mapping Forum is the industry group committed to the advancement of education and knowledge of LIDAR mapping technology and applications. To further this goal, the ILMF holds its annual meeting that brings together LIDAR professionals from around the world to network and learn about the latest technology, issues affecting LIDAR mapping and future opportunities. For those about to spend tens or hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars on LIDAR products or services, the ILMF 2006 is a MUST!

Following is a preview of what can be expected at ILMF 2006:

Two days of Workshops and Breakout Sessions

Keynotes from important government agencies on their future LIDAR plans

Aerial LIDAR Mapping: With over ten years of practical application, still many opportunities and obstacles abound: The technical, practical and business issues facing the future of aerial LIDAR mapping will be addressed. As well, an “Intro to LIDAR” will be included for newcomers to the technology.

3D Laser Scanning: Land-based laser scanning is becoming a major segment of the LIDAR mapping industry as more organizations require highly accurate 3D surveys and capture of existing conditions. Sessions will address specific applications, quality assurance, data processing and data integration. Opportunities for growth, applications and market conditions will be discussed.

LIDAR Bathymetry: This exclusive, highly-specialized and critical technology will be examined from a business, application and technical perspective. The Forum will discuss new survey platforms, technology for coastal zone mapping and, regional and international coastal mapping initiatives.

LIDAR Data Processing: This track will look at issues such as: Lessons learned in planning and deploying LIDAR acquisition and processing; how to manage large LIDAR data processing projects; tips and tricks to expedite processing; and, reviews of software, systems and tools.

Sensor Fusion: The future of remote sensing and mapping. How the fusion of LIDAR and other data, such as digital cameras, multispectral and hyperspectral imagery, and IFSAR are combined to create value-added or “intelligent” data products and services. A brief overview of the various sensor types will also be presented.

Breakout Sessions – Additional topics to be addressed:
The State of the Industry
Urban 3D Modeling
Quality Assurance and Control
LIDAR Mapping Applications and Projects
International LIDAR Mapping Operations

There are still a few sessions open in the various tracks so conference participants are encouraged to submit paper and presentation suggestions. The "Call for Papers" deadline is November 30th so make sure to contact the conference organizer to get your presentation into the conference or if you need an extension.
